Crooked in Canada

Stephen Chand, one of 11 Toronto bomb plot suspects, has been roughed up in jail and his lawyer thinks we should give a f**k.

Michael Moon (the lawyer) says his client was taking a shower when a guard smashed his client’s face into a wall before dragging him naked to a cell smeared with human waste, and smelling of urine. That’s his side of the story, and according to him there is video surveillance to back up his allegation.

Ontario corrections officials have little to say on the matter except that they were committed to the just and humane treatment of inmates, but if what Moon and Chand is saying is true, the humane part of the treatment has been flushed down the toilet when it comes to this particular alleged terrorist.

I could see an inmate who wears the “Maple Leaf” on his sleave smashing an alleged terrorist suspect’s head into a concrete wall, but I have my doubts about a jail guard doing it in an area where he is bound to be “caught on tape.”

The only way to know if what Chand is alleging is true is if somebody produces a videotape that shows what happened in the shower. Do they have video surveillance in the showers at Maplehurst provincial jail?

I don’t really care if Chand was thrown into a jail cell covered in shit and urine, but a guard smashing his head into a concrete wall is another story, if in fact the story the bomb suspect is telling is true.
Any guard that takes such action under the watchful eye of “Big Brother” so to speak, is just stupid in my opinion, and in this case if there is a videotape of a guard beating up on an inmate, then the case against the guard should be rock solid. I have a feeling there is no tape though, and I definitely have my doubts about the story Chand is weaving in an attempt at coming across as a victim rather than a man who has little regard for human life, as is obvious if he was willingly participating to blow up places where decent human beings like you and me might be.
