The story the media is putting put out there surrounding the death of Katelynne Sampson is as muddled, as it is hardly factual. Somebody somewhere knows more than they are telling about how Katelynne ended up in the care of Donna Irving, a woman who at first was reported to have 4 children, two of whom were believed to be in the care of the Children’s Aid Society.
Interesting that newspapers are now saying that Irving is the mother of two children who are currently in the care of their father. That puts a completely different spin on how Katelynne came into Irving’s care in the first place. There would be hell to pay within the CAS if in fact Irving did have two children in their care at the time they agreed to allow Katelynne to be under the guardianship of Irving.
Make no mistake about it, CAS was all to aware that Katelynne was in Irving’s care because there is no way that CAS wouldn’t have known that a family court judge ruled to move Katelynne into care of Irving. CAS or welfare workers would have been in that courtroom when guardianship was being awarded. It is their job, and in the course of their job, they would have been familiar with Bernise Sampson too. CAS is not being forthright with the information they are sharing about Katelynne, her mother, Donna Irving and her two or 4 children, whichever it is. Keep in mind there is a confidentiality agreement that CAS officials and their employees sign and hide behind, so whether CAS ever divulges the whole truth about their involvement in Katelynne’s life is up in the air. My money is on that they will not, that they will use confidentiality to withhold information that might paint them in a bad light. Trust me that is how child welfare agencies across the country keep themselves out of trouble.
Virginia Rowden knows exactly what I am talking about, and at this very minute she is trying to find ways to keep a lid on the CAS’s role in this tragic death. That is her job as an employee of the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Society. I bet Rowden is in “damage control” overdrive and has had a few sleepless nights since this story first broke.
I believe and agree with Bernise Sampson when she said the system had a role to play in preventing her daughter’s death. She would not have made such a statement if CAS were not involved in the guardianship of Katelynne.
She also said, “I think the system shoulda did a better job and they didn’t do it.”
Hmm, does anybody think that CAS did not have a say when it came to Katelynne’s guardianship? Based on what Bernise Sampson has said, I would have to say that CAS is in for a very, very rough ride.
It is about f**king time! CAS has been getting away with far too much shit for many years now, and it is about time somebody held them accountable. I have a feeling that the death of Katelynne Sampson is going to cause many headaches for CAS.
