Opposition Blames the Conservatives for $10 Million Theft at Royal Canadian Mint, Talk about a Witch Hunt

June 10th, 20091 Comment

There is more than $10 million and other assets are missing from the Royal Canadian Mint, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are on the case. Hmm…I have to wonder how they are going to solve this one, but surely they will, because the RCMP “always get their man” right? On the other hand, maybe it’s a woman who might be responsible.

Somebody, undoubtedly a current or former employee at the mint, has cashed in big time if the audit that discovered the theft is error free, and there is little doubt in my mind that if the numbers are right, the thievery would have been going on for much longer than the Stephen Harper goverment has been in office. But don’t tell the government opposition that, because they are already blaming the Conservatives for this one.

It hasn’t donned on them yet that a theft of this magnitude would have taken place over many years, many of which the opposition Liberals would have been in office for and quite frankly, opposition MPs who are bellowing that this theft (if in fact it exists) shows just how incompetent the Conservative government is, is ridiculous.

We’re talking about $10 million here, which if that amount is correct, would have taken more than the three years the Conservatives have been in power to steal unnoticed.

Whoever is responsible for this theft would have had to do it over several years to avoid making their actions look obvious. That’s why it went unnoticed until now.

Blaming the Conservatives for this is just stupid, and totally smacks of passing the buck. As far as I’m concerned, I think most of the theft occurred under the Liberal’s watch, but that’s just me.

The RCMP were called into investigate by the mint, on the instructions of junior government minister Rob Merrifield, who is declining to say how much is missing.

Blaming the Conservative government for this isn’t what I would say is the smartest thing for the opposition to do, and certainly wouldn’t look good on the Liberals if one of their own concurred with NDP legislator Thomas Mulcair, who started the finger pointing, and has only been a MP for less than two years.

Stealing $10 million dollars worth of gold and other assets would have taken a lot longer than 2 years to pull off. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

The Liberal Party of Canada would be smart to stay out of this round of finger pointing, you know, just in case it turns out the theft occurred on their watch.

We all know how possible that is of happening, especially given the circumstances under which the Liberals were booted from office. Remember the Sponsorship Scandal. What was it certain Liberals were saying about that, “They know nothing?”

That “Sgt. Shultz” attitude is definitely indicative how inept they were about having a hold on things, and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if because of that attitude, the Royal Canadian Mint theft is their fault too.

Liberal opposition MPs might want to take the “high road” in this round of Conservative government bashing and just keep their mouth shut about it.
