Canadian Prime Minister Wants Liberals To Topple His Government

September 4th, 20091 Comment

Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff has once again threatened to pull the trigger on a federal election, the difference being this time that that fossil of a leader for the New Democrats. Jack Layton has offered to prop up the minority Conservative government in a confidence vote in exchange for a backroom deal or two.

PM Stephen Harper isn’t receptive to that offer and appears to be calling Ignatieff’s bluff by emphatically stating that there will be no deals made to prevent an election this time around. That is a smart move Mr. PM, especially since the numbers in the polls are pointing to a majority Conservative government.

A fall election, as much as Canadians MIGHT not want one, could mean that for the four years falling the election, there actually MIGHT be a little stability and consistency in the government, something Canadians haven’t experienced for many years now.

When was the last an elected Canadian government was actually able to knuckle down and get some work done without a threat to topple it hanging over its head?  That’s right; it has been a long time.

If the Prime Minister is thinking what I am thinking, that the Conservatives are in a better position to form a majority government then they ever have been since dethroning the Liberals in 2006, then he should go out of his way to force a fall election.

The worst that could happen to the Conservatives is that they can only form a minority government.

Having said that, “GO AHEAD IGGY, PULL THE TRIGGER MATE! I DARE YOU!”
