Canadian Government Replacing Liberal Guidebook for Immigrants

November 12th, 2009No Comments

Out with old and in with the new, that’s what I say.

If a person wants to become a citizen of Canada, then he or she should know about the sacrifices Canadian citizens made to make Canada that great country it is today.

I could not have said it any better myself Joe whoever you are, though admittedly, I am paraphrasing what Joe said on the CTV website.

So Jason Kenney thinks that anybody wanting to obtain Canadian citizenship should know a hell of a lot more than what the Liberal government of 1997 expected from ‘wannabe citizens’ when it came to the country’s history, symbols, values and institutions.

Good on him, ditch that 47-page publication that Liberals wasted taxpayers’ money on, the one that gave more ink to recycling and ‘environmental stewardship’ than it did to Canada’s military.

The publication, which is titled “Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship will apparently help immigrants to assimilate, but at the end of the CG disagrees.

Assimilation and integration has nothing to do with what immigrants know about Canada’s institutions, history, symbols and values.

Assimilating and integrating into Canada is a personal choice immigrants make, and while I won’t paint all immigrants to Canada with one brush, there is a population of Canadian immigrants who no matter what they have to do to gain their citizenship, will not assimilate or integrate.

They just don’t give a f***, and they know who they are.

Aah f*** it, at the risk of being tagged a racist yet again, I’m going to say, “One need not look no further than the Tamil and Muslim communities to get a feel for what they might think about assimilating and integrating into the Canadian way of life.”

Seriously, if somebody were to like go out on the street with microphone and camera in hand to ask members of those particular communities about what they think about assimilating and integrating into the Canadian way of life, I’m pretty sure a large percentage of them would say in broken English, “Nope, not interested,” or words to that effect. Then again, and I hope I am, I could be wrong with my assumption.

Anyway, the day is going to come when I will be applying for my Australian citizenship, and yes just like in Canada I will be required to know something about Australia’s history, values, and institutions. I already do by the way, and as far as assimilating and integrating into the Australian way of life, I’m ‘in there’ like a dirty shirt.

Both Canada and Australia are great countries to choose to live in, and if one intends to emigrate to either, they should at the very least make the effort to fit in the way of life. It isn’t hard to do, and one shouldn’t be forced into doing so if they are sincere about making a go of it in another country for a better life.

Remembering Our Fallen Soldiers the Best Way I Can

It would be totally rude and disrespectful of me today not to make mention of the sacrifices Canadian soldiers have made so that Canadians like myself can live in the freedom we more often than not take for granted.

To all of the fallen Canadian soldiers, those who sacrificed their life so that I could live mine the way I live it today, “This day belongs to you and your families. You sacrificed your life so that I, and others, could live ours. I will, as I am sure will many, be forever grateful.”
